GOODBYE TO ANOTHER CRAPPY FRIEND

So… I’m quitting one of my two vices. Energy drinks have to go — they’ve become an addiction, and I find myself back at the store every single day. It feels eerily familiar, like when I used to visit the bottle shop every morning; I’d arrive at opening time and didn’t even need to say what I wanted because it was already expected. It would be set aside and waiting for me to pick up. Today I walked in and the clerk didn’t even speak — he simply disappeared out the back and returned with a four‑pack of Monster. Is this really what it had come to?

Up until now I have justified swallowing this poison by telling myself it was acceptable because I had given up the other poison — the one that made me drunk — but nearly six months have passed without an alcoholic drink, and now it is time to finally say goodbye to yet another toxic, unreliable friend.

All I really have left to deal with is the vape. This is going to be the tricky one. These devices have a real hold on me and I’ve tried quitting several times with little luck. It began as a solution for coming off cigarettes, but like the energy drinks, it has gone on far too long now. I’d even dare say they feel more addictive than the cigarettes, so that’s another challenge to face — there’s always something. I managed to get rid of the major temptations, but now I have to battle the smaller ones, where there are no excuses.
